It’s 11:30am and I’m getting hungry. Because, I’m in Denmark, today I might as well go out on a food adventure. I brought along one of my other European bloggers, Abby. So then we went off to go explore Denmark and their food.

First, we went to a farmers market. There were some things we saw over and over again. Which were things like wholemeal bread, porridge, and next to that were oatmeal and barley. More main foods that we saw were eggs, milk, cream, butter, and cheese. The vegetables we saw were cabbage, wild greens, and onions. The fruit that was at the farmers market was apples, nuts and all kinds of berries. After we looked around we finally ate. We had bread, porridge, cabbage, apples and some strawberries, but we weren’t completely full.

Then, of course, we went to a butcher's kitchen. A man who worked there gave us options mutton, goat’s flesh, horse flesh, beef, and pork. Then I asked the man if in the far north of Denmark if they eat different kinds of meats, he replied “ In the far north they eat reindeer, polar bears, whales and seals.” Then we asked if there were any drinks, there was milk, buttermilk, and whey. When I asked him about the adult drinks just in curiosity, he said, a weak beer brewed from barley and a much stronger beer made from fermented hone and water. There was also lot’s of wines that were imported from faraway Byzantium.

Finally, we got full and decided to see if we could go to a community and ask about where they cook most of their own food. Abby stayed at the town while I left for the community. When I got to the community I went around asking about where they cook their food. All of the people wouldn’t let me in their home until this nice lady finally let me in, her name was Maria. When I went in I walked around but I didn’t see a stove in a kitchen instead I saw a fireplace in the middle of the hall. Then I asked, “ do you cook your meats there on the fireplace?” Maria said, “ no, we cook our meat either roasted on the spit, boiled in great cauldrons, or fried in deep pans”. Again I asked, “ what’s your favorite kind of meal?”. Then Maria answered, “ Well, most of us in this community love rich stews containing all of the scraps and leftovers.” The last question I asked her was “ do you season your food or sweeten it?” She replied “ Yes, we season our food with pepper and many other spices from the East and yes, we sweeten our food with honey.” Thank you everyone who read this blog and I hope you learned something from it. Now go check out my other blogs about viking invasions, Charlemagne, and the History of Knights in Europe!
